Pomegranate is considered to be part of the group of super foods that are great for lowering your risk of developing many illnesses. The reason it is so good for you is that it has a lot of antioxidants including polyphenols, tannins, and anthocyanins. Antioxidants are important because they help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals in your body. The free radicals come from natural aging, from pollution and from metabolic processes in the body. Free radicals can harm your DNA and make you more susceptible to certain diseases like Alzheimer's and cancer.
